Matsuba and plum

The pine tree, which withstands the wind and snow and remains green all year round, has been regarded as a symbol of longevity.

The fragrant plum blossoms, which bloom before other flowers in the cold, are considered to be the ideal of life to endure adversity, and have been often sung in the Manyoshu and loved as auspicious flowers.
